|In John’s gospel, chapter 8, Jesus, while involved in a discussion with the Pharisees, tells them of His coming departure (Vv.21-30). In verse 30, the gospel says that “many believed in Him.” In the following verses, Jesus shares a life-changing principle for all who believe in Him.
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32
Truth sets us free. We come to the knowledge of the truth through abiding (remaining, continuing, dwelling) in His Word. That is why there is great warfare to keep us from His Word. For us to live in the freedom that we are called to, we must make God’s Word a chief priority in our lives, and not an afterthought. The devil is a murderer and a liar (John 8:44), and he delights in keeping people in bondage by keeping them from God’ Word.
I pray today that you will choose to make God’s Word your delight, (Psalm 119:16) so that you might know the freedom that flows from following the Truth.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:36)
