|In writing to the church in Thessalonica, Paul is encouraged by three key ingredients the believers demonstrate. “We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thes.1:2-3)
Faith, Hope, and Love are also mentioned in 1 Corinthians 13:13 as the three virtues that abide (are necessary), with the greatest being Love. So what makes these three so important?
Today, let us hold fast to faith, hope, and love!
- Love is how we best express God to others, for God is love (1 John 4:7-8). This love is a work that God does in us through spending time with Him and allowing Him to make us more like Him.
- Faith is how we walk with God, learning to allow His Spirit to work in us every day in every situation. Faith comes through hearing and obeying God’s Word.
- Hope is an extension of faith. It is not wishful thinking but a confident expectation based on God’s promises. Faith is trusting God’s grace to be at work in a present situation. Hope is trusting God’s grace to continue working in the future.
Grace and Peace,
