There is a great encouragement for followers of Christ from Hebrews 4. Verses 1-10 talk about the promise of God’s rest for His people. In the New Covenant, we can enter God’s rest, not just once a week, but each and every day, because of the finished work of Christ. We do not have to strive under the Law to earn God’s approval. We are called to a rest, trusting in Christ’s work on our behalf.
However, the following verses 11-13, assure us of the power of God’s Word working in us to show us our condition. Verse 12 reads, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
We are called to trust in Christ, but also to walk in His Word. The process of sanctification flows through God’s Word and Spirit working in us and through us. Verses 14-16 remind us that because Jesus as our great High Priest has been tempted in every way, He can sympathize with our weaknesses and struggles. As a result, we are exhorted to” come boldly to the throne of Grace, to obtain mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Blessings fellow followers of Christ,
